Knowing Your Subjects - Can You Teach A Zebra Some Algebra?

School is the kingdom of both Educators and Students.

Educator is the king and students are his subjects. It is the duty of the king to understand his subjects who are not only intellectual but also social and emotional human beings. To impact learning and performance in a student, an educator has to interact with his subjects. It is important for every educator to remember what the prior knowledge of his student is before he plans his subject. An educator may be having a strong command of his subject but his teaching is of no use until he knows what is going on in his student’s head.

If an educator wants to make his class relevant and engaging he needs to know about his student in advance, about his capabilities and abilities before he enters his class. An Educator needs to find out their background knowledge, skill and pace before he enters his class, then only he will be able to teach effectively in his class. An Educator must also keep in mind the interests of his students. On the whole, according to us an educator to make his lessons more effective should know them by interacting and collaborating with them
