Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty
by - Patrick Radden Keefe

About the Book
This book will make your blood boil . . . Keefe . . . paints a devastating portrait of a family consumed by greed and unwilling to take the slightest responsibility or show the least sympathy for what it wrought.' John Carreyrou, author of Bad Blood, in the New York Times
The gripping and shocking story of three generations of the Sackler family and their roles in the stories of Valium and Oxycontin, by the prize-winning, bestselling author of Say Nothing.
The Sackler name adorns the walls of many storied institutions – Harvard; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Oxford; the Louvre. They are one of the richest families in the world, known for their lavish donations in the arts and the sciences. The source of the family fortune was vague, however, until it emerged that the Sacklers were responsible for making and marketing Oxycontin, a blockbuster painkiller that was a catalyst for the opioid crisis-an international epidemic of drug addiction which has killed nearly half a million people.
In this masterpiece of narrative reporting and writing, Patrick Radden Keefe exhaustively documents the jaw-dropping and ferociously compelling reality. Empire of Pain is the story of a dynasty: a parable of 21st century greed.

INDIA: The Last Superpower
by Hiroshi Hirabayashi

About the Book
In India: The last superpower, the former ambassador of Japan to India, hiroshi hirabayashi, presents a portrait of India as a growing global superpower. He highlights the unique features of India in which he served as a diplomat from 1998–2002. In addition to a detailed Analysis of India’s strengths and weaknesses, hirabayashi throws light on the history of friendship between the two countries from as early as India’s struggle for independence. He shows how India supported Japan after world War II, and how Japan has been a staunch friend of India for decades. He analyses how their shared religious heritage (Buddhism originated in India and later travelled to Japan) has strengthened the bond between the two countries. For both Japanese and Indian readers, The book will prove to be of great value as the author uses his personal experiences of India, as well as a Japanese perspective, to provide insights into a variety of aspects of the country. GANDHI: His Engagement with Islam and the Arab World
by - Abdulnabi Alshoala

About the Book
How Gandhi viewed Islam and his legacy in the Arab world The Arab world has witnessed, during the last decades not long ago, the ugliest and most horrifying images of extremism, violence and terrorism, fueled and reinforced by ideas and speeches of mobilization in the name of religion. These ideas and speeches incite hatred, and bloodshed, fragmenting society and putting the very foundations of civilizations at stake. If these ideas are not addressed, they will inevitably result in the establishment of a dangerous intellectual deviation, pushing the whole Arab nation to the abyss of despair, frustration, crisis and decay. In the midst of these harsh and desperate circumstances, the author revisits Gandhi’s intellectual heritage and ponders over Mahatma’s two focal points—gandhi’s decisive stance against any and all forms of injustice, discrimination, violence and terrorism, whether they are apparent or hidden under the guise of politics, religion, nationalism or racism; and his fair and equitable attitude on the issues relating to Arabs and Muslims, stemming from his appreciation of Islam and the persona of Prophet Mohammed. This position is apparent in support for the rights of Indian Muslims in South Africa and then in India, as well as, in his reluctant understanding and sympathy for the idea of Muslims separating from India to establish Pakistan. The topic then continues to address Gandhi’s opposition to zionism and his refusal to the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine, a stance that boldly drew the lines of Indian policy which continue to support the overall Arab and Islamic cause. Through these different stages in the life of Gandhi, the author sheds some light on some of the briery and paradoxical precursors that paved the way for the separation of Muslims from India, such as the issue of the caliphate and the apprehension of Muslims towards some of Gandhian stances. Gandhi: his engagement with Islam and the Arab world is an effort seeking to address issues faced by Islam and the Muslim countries in a Gandhian way.

The XX Brain:
The Groundbreaking Science Empowering Women
to Prevent Dementia
by - Lisa Mosconi

About the Book
Women are far more likely than men to suffer from anxiety, depression, migraines, brain injuries, strokes and Alzheimer's disease. But, until recently, scientific research has focused on 'bikini medicine,' assuming that women are essentially men with different reproductive organs.
The XX Brain presents groundbreaking research showing that women's brains age distinctly from men's, due mostly to the decline of a key brain-protective hormone: estrogen.
Taking on all aspects of women's health, including brain fog, memory lapses, depression, stress, insomnia, hormonal imbalances and the increased risk of dementia, Dr. Mosconi introduces cutting-edge, evidence-based methods for protecting the female brain, encompassing diet, stress reduction and sleep. She also examines the effectiveness of hormonal replacement therapy, addresses the perils of environmental toxins and explores the role of our microbiome. Luckily, it is never too late to take care of yourself.
