Satsang: A Seeker’s Guide to Self-Realization

by Swami Shashwat ji

ABOUT THE BOOK

For over a decade, Swami Shashwat Ji has been living in Rishikesh, meeting people from all over the world, and answering their questions. The book you are holding in your hands is a compilation of these questions and his answers in an attempt to make them available not only to those who have been in his presence but also to anyone curious to know more about the meaning of life in general and about spirituality in particular. Swamiji was born in 1985 in a small village in Madhya Pradesh in central India, on the banks of the river Narmada2. As a child, he was curious by nature, eager to know about the lives and sadhana or spiritual practices of saints like Dhruv and Prahlad, about nature, about life and death. At the tender age of five, he began chanting Lord Rama’s name for several hours daily. At the time, he did no other practice and knew nothing else except that he wanted to unite with the Lord. His thirst for the Truth led him to leave his home at the age of fourteen, and he started visiting different places of pilgrimage and meeting different saints along the way. Occasionally, he would stay with his guru, Baba Shri Gajanand Ji Maharaj, and serve him with love and devotion.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Swami Shashwat ji was born in 1985 in a small village in Madhya Pradesh, India. From early childhood, he started chanting the name of Lord Rama for several hours every day. At the age of fourteen, he left home to travel across India, living for many years in forests and on the banks of sacred rivers. For over a decade, he has been meeting people from around the world, mainly in Rishikesh, where meditation and satsangs take place every evening. His teachings remind spiritual seekers of the great masters of Advaita Vedanta, such as Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj. His words are frank, direct, and uncompromising. His statements do not try to charm the person’s intellect, but their only aim is to pause and dissolve the mind, thus leading listeners to their true essence and inviting them to be fully aware of every thought, word, and action. He particularly stresses the importance of daily meditation and contemplation, discrimination and detachment, Self-enquiry and Self-knowledge, surrender, and satsang. But Swamiji never imposes his views on anyone and believes that if a seeker comes to him for guidance, his only job is to remove the obstacles on the path. In Swamiji’s presence, we only need to be quiet, listen to that sacred silence, and recognize the eternal joy that we are and in which everything happens naturally.
